Recent Work
Jessica Sturgess
The first solo exhibition of recent work by Jessica Sturgess. Having spent most of her adolescence in Spain under the Franco regime, Jessica left for India in 1978. On her return to Ibiza in 1990 she met the sculptor, Barry Flanagan. She became Barry’s assistant and he taught her about every aspect of making sculpture with clay and bronze. In 2002 a romance blossomed and they were together until Barry passed away in 2009.
This exhibition can best be described as a love letter to Barry. There are tender portraits of Barry and symbols, creatures and objects that represent their shared life. Jessica demonstrates a natural affinity to working in bronze and she has given us a deeply personal, loving account of her life with Barry.
