New Works by Peter Davis, opens at The Oliver Sears Gallery on Tuesday 15th March and runs until 21st April.

This will be Peter’s first solo exhibition in Ireland having participated as a guest artist in Now and Then (Oliver Sears Gallery, 25th November 2010 – 31st January 2011).

Born in 1972, Peter Davis studied at Goldsmith’s College, University of London, where he graduated with an Honours degree in Fine Art in 1993. He has had a number of very successful solo exhibitions throughout Europe and the US since graduation and his work has been included in many prestigious group exhibitions. These include From Here, with the Waddington Gallery in 1995; Peter Davis, Bridget Riley, Glenn Brown, Alison Wilding, Zebedee Jones, at the Karsten Schubert Gallery in 1995; Peter Davis, Callum Innes, Sean Shanahan, at the Slewe Gallery, Amsterdam in 1998; The Saatchi Gift in 2000; with Asprey Jacques at The Armoury, New York in 2001; in 2004 and 2008 with Lennon Weinberg in New York; and Painting in the Noughties at The Letterkenny Arts Centre in 2007.

In 2001 Peter won the West of Now Award, Holland and his paintings are included in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, Miami; The Prada Foundation, Italy and the Southampton City Art Gallery.

The present body of work will include a dozen new paintings that bring a fresh perspective to his highly personal take on the discipline of gestural painting.

According to the artist “The paintings still remain the product of image making through the removal of paint rather than its application, though the movement has in recent years become more complex rather than the simple top to bottom drag it was for some time. If I have a mantra it's always been to create as much as possible with as little as possible. I've always limited the language I work with.”
